LEGAL INTERNSHIP
This is an ideal position for a law student who wants exposure to a range of legal issues. Good Counsel creates the legal framework for non-profits and social impact leaders through direct, affordable assistance. In addition to NGO work, our attorneys take on immigration clients, such as asylum seekers and humanitarian parole applicants. Legal interns have an opportunity to help with each of our services.
At this time, Good Counsel Services is unable to pay our interns, but we are happy to work with students’ schools for academic credit or outside funding.
Intern Responsibilities May Include:
- – Legal research and writing on a wide array of legal areas (employment, IP, corporate governance, compliance, tax, etc.) facing not-for-profits, 501(c)(3) organizations, benefit corporations, and other business entities
- – Participate in client intake interviews and client meetings and conducting client outreach where appropriate
- – Review and organize documents, including but not limited to contract review
- – Write and edit presentation materials on legal topics for social impact or immigration matters
- – Draft motions, briefs, and applications for our immigration clients
- – Grant research and writing
*If desired, a legal intern can choose to focus on one area of law or a wide variety of areas.
Qualifications of the Ideal Candidate:

- – Excellent communication and organizational skills
- – Proficient in legal research and writing
- – The ability to work autonomously, as well as with a team

We offer affordable resources to help our clients achieve their missions and business goals. Our services include legal assistance, fundraising support, marketing consulting, and accounting services.
By joining our team of interns, students and career-oriented individuals immerse themselves in the world of social innovation, advocacy, and entrepreneurship. We offer extensive education and training in each of our core service areas, including hands-on work experience and networking opportunities with our clients and cohorts, along with pro bono immigration advocacy work.
The Good Counsel internship is designed to provide emerging professionals with tools for professional development and personal growth. Applicants must be organized, responsible, able to multitask, and harbor a passion for social good. Each intern is responsible for a dedicated workload and is considered an integrated member of the team. We provide you with agency—help us make a difference.
Scheduling & Internship Structure:
This position is remote. We are flexible with your availability, but we expect a commitment of at least 3 months with a minimum contribution of 8 hours per week.
The start date is negotiable. Attendance at one of our bi-weekly stand-up meetings (Mondays 10:30 EST & Thursdays 16:15 EST) is strongly encouraged.
All Legal interns report directly to the Legal Lead, but are encouraged to maintain close contact with our Executive Director.
